First, before designing a hydraulic cylinder, let's share some considerations: 1. Minimize the hydraulic cylinder's external dimensions for a compact structure. 2. Ensure the speed and stroke of the hydraulic cylinder's reciprocating motion meet the required traction force. 3. Ideally, the piston rod should be under tension, not compression, to prevent bending deformation. 4. Ensure each part has sufficient strength, rigidity, and durability. 5. Avoid lateral loads on the hydraulic cylinder as much as possible. 6. For long-stroke hydraulic cylinders, the piston rod should be prevented from sagging when extended. 7. Eliminate deviations between the piston, piston rod, and guide rails.
First, before designing a hydraulic cylinder, let's share some considerations:
1. Minimize the hydraulic cylinder's external size for a compact structure.
2. Ensure the hydraulic cylinder's reciprocating speed and the pulling force required for its stroke.
3. The piston rod should ideally be under tension, not compression, to avoid bending and deformation.
4. Ensure each component has sufficient strength, stiffness, and durability.
5. Minimize lateral loads on the hydraulic cylinder.
6. For long-stroke hydraulic cylinders, when the piston rod extends, sagging should be avoided as much as possible. a
7. Eliminate misalignment between the piston, piston rod, and guide.
8. Consider cushioning, venting, and dust prevention measures based on the hydraulic cylinder's operating conditions and specific circumstances.
9. The hydraulic cylinder must not be restricted from flexing due to temperature changes. This is especially important for long hydraulic cylinders.
10. Implement effective sealing to prevent leakage.
11. Structural elements of the hydraulic cylinder should adopt standard series sizes; opt for commonly used standard parts whenever possible.
12. Aim for low cost, ease of manufacture, and convenient maintenance.
Secondly, here are some points to note regarding material selection:
Cylinder Body:
Machine Tools - Mostly high-strength cast iron (HT200) is used; seamless steel pipes are used when pressure exceeds 8 MPa.
Engineering Machinery - Mostly 35 steel and 45 steel seamless steel pipes are used. For high pressure, 27SiMn seamless steel pipes or 45 steel forgings can be used.
Piston:
Integral Piston - Mostly 35 steel and 45 steel are used.
Assembled Piston - Often uses gray cast iron, wear-resistant cast iron, aluminum alloy, etc. For special needs, bronze, brass, and nylon wear-resistant bushings can be installed on the outside of steel piston blanks.
Piston Rod:
Generally, 35 steel and 45 steel are used; when the hydraulic cylinder experiences significant impact and vibration, 55 steel or 40Cr alloy materials can be used.
Finally, we can proceed step-by-step to complete the design of the hydraulic cylinder:
1. Select the type and structural form of the hydraulic cylinder based on the host's operational requirements.
2. Understand the original data and design basis, including: the host's Applications and operating conditions; the structural characteristics, load conditions, stroke size, and operational requirements of the working mechanism; the working pressure and flow rate selected for the hydraulic system; the actual situation of materials, accessories, and processing technology; relevant national standards and technical specifications, etc.
3. Based on the external loads acting on the hydraulic cylinder, such as gravity, external mechanism friction, inertia force, and working load, determine the load change pattern at each stage of the stroke and the required power value.
4. Determine the diameter of the piston and piston rod based on the hydraulic cylinder's working load and the selected hydraulic oil working pressure.
5. Determine the flow rate of the hydraulic pump based on the hydraulic cylinder's movement speed and the diameter of the piston and piston rod.
6. Select cylinder barrel material and calculate the outer diameter.
7. Select the structure of the cylinder head and calculate the connection strength between the cylinder head and the cylinder barrel.^
8. Determine the maximum working length L of the hydraulic cylinder based on the working stroke requirements; typically L>=D, where D is the diameter of the piston rod. Due to the slenderness of the piston rod, longitudinal bending strength verification and stability calculation of the hydraulic cylinder should be performed.
9. If necessary, design cushioning, venting, and dust-proof devices.
10. Draw the hydraulic cylinder assembly drawing and parts drawing.
11. Organize the design calculation documents, approve drawings and other technical documents.
